A glorious day: last night at, 1 am, England beat Norway 2-1 in the Football World Cup – and this morning the sun was shining brightly in our second heatwave of the Summer, with another heatwave on its way. There were one or two bleary eyes this morning when we met in the Stair Foot Lane carpark to pick up litter and to clear paths but we were all in high spirits.
Five of us had come to litterpick, and six to clear vegetation from paths.
The five of us clearing paths started with two paths leading from the carpark to the steps down to the stream.
We then moved on to the picnic area and cut back holly encroaching onto one of the public footpaths. Whilst there we noted that our nest box number 3 had completely disappeared from a large birch tree.
Finally, we moved on to the footpath leading from the south east corner of the picnic area down to the Meanwood Valley Trail

Friends of Adel Woods were formed in 2009 to help maintain Adel Woods and encourage people to enjoy them. We meet one weekend morning a month to carry out various jobs or ”work parties”, and we also put on educational events such as bat walks, fungal forays and birdsong walks.
We are a very friendly group and welcome new members who want to help preserve our special woods, enjoy fresh air, exercise in the woods, and make new friends.
