Clearing the Meanwood Valley Trail

In these days of corona virus frenzy, your correspondent was not sure if anyone would turn up today, but we had a healthy group of nine of us.

Four of us litter picked and picked up seven or eight bags of rubbish, while the rest of us went down to the Meanwood Valley Trail, just south of the cricket pitches, to clear away two birch trees which had fallen across the footpaths, and to cut back holly.

We have had so much rain in recent months that the Meanwood Valley Trail was in many places a 15cm deep quagmire. However, the weather was fine and we had a lovely morning of teamwork, conversation, birdsong and even some sunshine at times!

  1. Hello from Victoria, B.C., Canada!
I began reading about Adel Woods last night after discovering two old family photos labelled Adel Moor and Stairsfoot Cottage. I watched a little walking tour of the area online, then stumbled upon your website. So far, I’ve read entries from 2009, 2010 and 2020… a healthy distraction from the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you for sharing your progress! The small collection of photos in my possession includes images from your area but also Whitby Harbour, Kirkby Wharfe and the Woodhouse Feast. Please let me know if you would like me to scan and send these images to you and how best to do this. I am happy to share them. My grandfather, Albert Victor Pickard (born in Leeds), emigrated to Canada in 1916 at the age of 17.
